I am starting this blog if you haven’t guessed yet because I am an Astrosholic. Don’t know how it happened, grew up in upstate NY, most people here are either Yankees fans or Red Sox fans. I have been asked a thousand times how I ended up an Astros fan….the only real response I can give is I have no idea. I thought once it was because of Nolan Ryan, I was a huge Ryan fan growing up, but my first baseball cards predate his arrival to the stros by 3 years. So I really have no answer besides good taste. The early 80’s with Ryan, Niekro, Ashby, Cruz and Dickie Thon, I remember when he got hit and how awful that felt. The mid- late 80’s and the Mets who I havent forgiven even till this day. I will get into my Astros memories and would like you to share yours in later posts….but now for the present.
I like most people who are reading this have suffered through the last few years, I will even admit to having stopped watching there games in the middle of 2013. I couldn’t stand watching it after awhile because it just was ugly. But now it looks like we have turned the corner a bit. Lots of young prospects and predictions of success for the future, solid play on the field by players who look to be with the Astros for the future and hopefully the payroll to plug the holes we have. This season should be an interesting one as they start to mix in some free agents who have the potential to really help the club (Neshek, Gregerson, Lowerie and Rasmus) and still try to bring up talent from the minors to evaluate. So lets hope for the best, enjoy the season and LETS GO STROS!
